The Landkreuzer P-1000 Ratte (German: Rat) was a project for a German super-heavy tank from the Second World War. The vehicle project was never developed as a prototype, let alone into mass production. It was also intended to be equipped with 2 MAN V12Z32/44 engines with a total power output of 8,500 hp or 8 Daimler-Benz MB501 engines with a total power output of 16,000 hp. The planned armament of the vehicle consists of 2,280 mm cannons, 1,128 mm KwK 44 L/55 cannon, 8,20 mm FlaK38 cannons, and 2,15 mm MG151/15 machine guns.
The first project for the P-1000 Ratte originated in 1942. It aimed to create not so much a tank, but rather a land cruiser with enormous mass and main armament, the caliber of which was equal to that of the cannons of the battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau! Interestingly, work on this unusual vehicle likely began shortly thereafter but was halted in 1943. The size and weight of the P-1000 Ratte made it very vulnerable to air attacks and fire from all types of artillery. The vehicle's near-zero maneuverability in the field, or its inability to overcome major water obstacles on available bridges, was also problematic. All these problems made the P-1000 Ratte project questionable from the start and cast doubt on its combat value.
