Product description

Flight Squadron 42, which was only on paper at the beginning of the Winter War, finally received its bombers on February 26, 1940. After only a week of training, the squadron was sent to repel enemy forces trying to cover the Finns in the Vyborg Bay.

In the early weeks of the continuation war, the unit carried out several successful squadron bombardments against enemy formations and equipment near Laatoka. After only a month of hostilities, losses and plane accidents had depleted the equipment to only a few Blenheims that were in good condition.

The situation was partially corrected only in February 1943, when Flight Squadron 44 transferred to the Junkers fleet, handing over its Blenheims that had already been in the winter war to Flight Squadron 42. The squadron reached full strength (18 planes) at the end of the same year, when a series of 30 planes had been completed at the aircraft factory.

In the summer of 1944, the Bomber Squadron 42 effectively participated in the fight against the major attack, flying far more war flights than the other bomber squadrons. Spectacular results were achieved with several squadron bombardments. The only problem was the Blenheim's modest bomb load.

Three years after the end of the war, the bombers were decommissioned under the Paris Peace Agreement. At the same time, the squadron's successor, PLeLv 41, was converted into a fighter squadron, which flew at Mersui for four years.
